From HAWK to the world

Organising and completing a stay abroad demonstrates flexibility, initiative and determination to prospective employers, as well as improved language skills and subject-specific knowledge. The International Office advises HAWK students on studying and undertaking internships abroad, and provides information on scholarships and other funding opportunities.

Taking a step beyond one’s own national borders broadens horizons, especially at a young age, and also enriches personal development. Encountering other cultures, adapting to different ways of life and social customs, and making new international friends all contribute to a more conscious understanding of one’s own lifestyle and national identity. A period abroad is both a personal and academic challenge ─ and one that brings lasting benefits to those who embrace it.

Freemoving

Is your preferred university not among HAWK’s partner universities, or does your department not have any international partnerships? If so, you can also organise your stay abroad independently and complete it at another host university.

Study-related stays abroad, known as semesters abroad, are often referred to as freemoving when students apply directly to universities of their choice rather than going through their home institution’s existing partnerships. As a freemover, you arrange your stay abroad on your own, but the International Office will assist with any questions you may have.
